The study is being conducted by Dr Jan Bikker at the University of Dundee in accordance with standard ethics guidelines and the Data Protection Act. Participation in the study typically takes 5 minutes and is anonymous. You are being asked to provide a personal username. You begin by answering a series of personal details, after which an upload section will be shown where you can upload the pictures of your body modifications. All data will be pooled and can only be analysed and viewed by the researchers of the University of Dundee and FASTID-project partners. All responses are treated as confidential, and in no case will responses from individual participants be identified. Identification might be possible if part of your face is shown in the uploaded image, however this may only be possible if you give your specific consent for publication. The images will not be used in any publication such as journals, unless you give specific consent by ticking a designated tickbox prior to submitting your details and images. After submission, a page with a summary of the submitted data will be shown which you may print out as a reminder of your participation in this research. Participation is completely voluntary. Participants have the right to withdraw at any point without reason or penalty within the timeline of this project. If you decide to withdraw from the research, all correspondence and data will be destroyed. Notification of withdrawal from the project must occur by 30th June 2012 as after that point the images will be disconnected from any metadata and they will not be able to be retrieved. The images will then form a gallery within the FASTID system to to facilitate data recording for missing and unidentified persons. You should tick the appropriate box to indicate that you give express permission for your images to be used in the FASTID gallery.
